And so my faith in humanity crumbles... again
Someone stole my bike last night. Someone just walked into our yard, to the back of the house and took the bike I've used almost every day for the last ten years. I'm angry, very.

The Carpet Needs a Haircut
The end of days is close at hand! Or so it would seem...
I have cleaned my room.
And here are the promised pictures of my
bike trailer. For those who didn't know, St Albert is the patron saint of natural sciences ^^

I don't do many of these
but this one was actually quite fun.
Pure Nerd 65 % Nerd, 21% Geek, 43% Dork |
For The Record: A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia. A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one. A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions. You scored better than half in all Nerd, earning you the title of: Pure Nerd. The times, they are a-changing. It used to be that being exceptionally smart led to being unpopular, which would ultimately lead to picking up all of the traits and tendences associated with the "dork." No-longer. Being smart isn't as socially crippling as it once was, and even more so as you get older: eventually being a Pure Nerd will likely be replaced with the following label: Purely Successful. Congratulations! |

My test tracked 3 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

|
You scored higher than 22% on geekosity |
|
You scored higher than 72% on dork points |

Chicken race with reality
The real world, in the form of serious studies that many might call mindboggling (I believe my mind to be almost unbogglable by now, still very confuddlable though), is coming at me fast and I have too much vacationist momentum to turn! So unless reality decides to take evasive action at the last moment (empirical studies have shown this to be improbable) a crash seems *Smith voice* inevitable.
More on that some other time.
I spent most of yesterday restoring an old (50-60 years) cargo trailer for my bike. I'm rather proud of it and will probably post a photo eventually.
But that was yesterday. Today I've been out in Östhammar and in the archipelago, weather was great and everything else followed suit so I had a wonderful day. I think two things will stick particularly well in my memory because of their relative oddness. First, barbecuing frozen pie. And second, driving a small motorboat back and forth at a decent speed while my brother hung over the side with a scythe. The first... well, we simply had nothing else to barbecue. And the second is the fastest way we know for getting rid of the water plants that otherwise would grow thick in our little bay.
Managed to read a few relevant articles on jovian atmosphere today and have a few references to check at the library tomorrow, perhaps I can brake my plummet towards reality somewhat ^^

ps. if I seem barely coherent all I can say to my defence is that it's been a very long day following a very short night.

Mmm... ammonium hydroxide
I just cleaned my windows. Turned out I had a small spider cemetary without even knowing it. Why would spiders want to crawl in around my windows to die? There were a few live ones too, but I'm not sure if they were there to die or just to mourn their departed kin.
Other things to do today: Make an eye, go to my little brother's for dinner.

Another animated movie
I didn't know we did good full length animated movies in Europe so I was pleasantly surprised by Corto Maltese. Perhaps not a great movie, the story feels a little rushed and diffuse in places, but very well made. It is set in eastern Asia after the Russian revolution where Venetian adventurer/pirate Corto Maltese, backed by his friend Rasputin and a secret Chinese society is attempting to steal the gold of the late Tzar from an armored train.
I liked the somewhat muted style of the movie; when stuff gets blown up it's allowed to fall apart without the unsightly balls of fire, when people get shot they die quietly. I won't spoil it for you by revealing the ending, but let me say I liked it. Very untypical. Which can pretty much be said about the entire movie. I don't know if this is because it was made in Europe and is more influenced by European movie tradition than imported animated film or if the makers simply want to create something of a unique European animated flavour. Maybe neither, but I suspect both.
The language is French, which I'm perfectly fine with as long as there are subtitles that I can look at when the speaking gets too fast (I remember watching Wasabi in Japan with French speech Japanese subtitles, that was rather difficult ^^). It'd probably do me good to hear more French so I don't forget it completely.
Well, time to had this movie back to my little brother so he can watch it before returning it. If Folkes wasn't closed on Sundays, thus letting my brother keep the movie for two days instead of one, I wouldn't have gotten to see this. So, thank you Folke ^^
I promise next post won't be about a movie.

Ghost in the Shell: Innocence
I think I still have the pizza flyer where I first read about it around somewhere (both because of that and to remind me of the outrageous prices on pizza in Japan).
I'm glad Batou got such a central role in this movie, he's definitely worth it. There's a strong Bladerunner vibe to many scenes that I very much like and the more surreal episodes fit in well.
Animation-wise it is pure awesomeness, makes me want to sit down and build 3d models again. I might even finish that airship that I showed awhile ago. It certainly shows that it's based on Shirow's manga, but only in good ways. His semiorganic shiny designs are all over the place, but we are spared much of the naked and big chested that is usually so abundant in his work.
I don't know if I've mentioned my vague, but deeply rooted, dislike and distrust of mirrors before. But thanks to it there's one quote in particular that got stuck in my head: "Mirrors don't reflect evil, they create it."
A good story and well told :)

Meeting potential future relative
Just met my brother's girlfriend's mother who's visiting from Sri Lanka. She seems nice enough, even if I can't remember her name.
The trip north last week was very nice, I shall show a few pictures.
Firstly, here's one of me right before I set out on my two day hike through the pass of Lunndörren and up to Vålådalen:
picture! (cut my hair yesterday, it's shorter now)
The next one is from the pass itself, or just north of it:
picture! And this is just to show that awesome people go swimming in awesome places:
Picture!!To be fair, I should probably point out that I'd found a small pool, just visible on the left of that picture. I didn't dive into the actual rapids ^^
PICTURE!!!On the way home, dad and I stopped to pick
cloudberries. For those of you who didn't know, the cloudberry is the best berry in the world from which can be made the most wonderful jam. It's an excellent year for them and we picked five liters in less than two hours :D
What else can I say about my life right now? My summer holiday is nearing its end. Kana's flying back to Japan next week. I paved a garden path yesterday...
