One of those days

Everybody's got bad days I suppose, but it sucks to get one on the day of a ridiculously difficult exam in general relativity and cosmology. I spent five hours feeling stupid, stressed and frustrated, given another five hours I might actually have done ok. Now all I can do is aim to do better in atmosphere physics on Wednesday and then maybe consider writing up my cosmology grade in August.
I went and listened to Das Bandt play straight after the exam (it was one of the hated afternoon exams, 14-19) and that managed to lift my spirits a little. Markus snapped a string right before the solo in In Jail, but somehow played through the rest of the song before changing guitar. I don't play guitar myself, but it seems like it'd be bothersome ^^. The sound was good today. I think part of it was the room and part of it that Ian's learning to play the drums a little quieter (a year of jazz can do that I suppose) and so letting the sound fit better in a small locale.

Just something that deserves to be spread.

Sometimes you read something that you think should be read by as many people as possible just because it might conceivably make the world a little better
This is one of those times.

I just came back from a party with a bunch of asian exchange students a little while ago. Been eating many delicious Korean dishes that I can't remember the names of (and probably not spell them if I did remember). My own humble contribution to the feast was an apple cake. Since there were so many people I made it twice as big as usual (using a 3 l pan instead of a 1.5 l one)... should have realized that noone would be able to eat much after all the other food ^^
Tomorrow I'm going down to Stockholm with my family to see The Barber of Seville at the Royal Opera. That'll be fun, but I'd almost rather spend the time studying for my finals, I'm getting nervous.

New linkage

Nothing really worthy of mention has happened since the last post. The weather's gotten a little les stable, but we still get some sun almost every day and spring is progressing nicely.
I added a couple of new links on the left:
Polykarbon BBS is an art forum I kind of like. You won't find the best artists there, but it's got a relaxed atmosphere and there are some very good people hanging around. Lately quite a few I-wanna-draw-manga kids have popped up though.
Carl Bildt is a former Swedish prime minister and a successful international diplomat. His views on current events are well worth reading, maybe especially for those who usually get all their input from American media.

Moving forward again

I finally got a reply from one of the supervising professors for that Jupiter project I'm hoping to do for my graduation thesis thingy (some day I shall find out what it's called in English) this fall and it seems likely that I'll get it. I still have to go meet the guy and discuss it some more, but it's looking promising. Suddenly I feel like I have something of a goal again. I should be able to attack my studies more aggressively now. I'd better, with just two weeks left before finals I need to get to work.
Had planned to get some studying done yesterday, but with everything else going on I didn't. I got up at 6:45 so that I could warm up properly before playing tennis at eight. Played tennis for two hours, showered, went home and promptly fell asleep on the couch for almost two hours. Woke up, had lunch and then helped dad move stuff from the old kitchen out to the barn. Then there was my aunt's birthday party that took far more time than I'd planned, but I suppose such things always do. And then the day was over.
I think I'll escape to Ångström today, that way there'll be nothing to distract me ^^

long post, little content

Time for an update, even if there's nothing much to say. No sketches worthy of showing, but at least I have a couple of quick Blender models: a recurve bow and a hypodermic arrow. The idea for the arrow was stolen from a short story by R. Garcia y Robertson.
Went to a concert last weekend, some Borodin, some Mozart and a whole bunch of Tchaikovsky (did I spell that right?). It was very good, especially considering that it was performed by 'Kungliga akademiska kapellet' who are really just amateurs (as in they don't get paid, some are certainly good enough to be proffessionals). The conductor and flute solist were pros though.
My vain attempts to get back in shape after a winter of mostly sitting on my ass (not to mention a year in Japan during which I got very little exercise) continue. Today I went inlining about 20 km after class. I took the same route that I used to take a couple of summers ago. My legs are in surprisingly good condition, but I still had to stop and rest a couple of times. We'll see if I can fix that until the end of the month.

May, she will stay...

Valborg has come and gone, I've been wearing my chicken yellow jump suit and made fun of drunk students. Kana had her parents over from Japan, their first time outside the country, and I spent much of the day with them. It must have been quite a shock, to come from quiet, polite Japan and get dumped in the middle of tens of thousands of more than slightly intoxicated Swedish students. They took it quite well and seemed to have fun.
This week'll be short since Thursday is... don't know the name in English, one of those christian holidays that noone sees as more than just another day off.
Polykarbon.com, my preferred art forum, has started biweekly art drills. The ninja a couple of posts ago was for that (on the topic 'ninjas', how original) and here's my entry for prehistoric tank. I like these, since the fairly narrow topics push me to draw stuff I never would have drawn otherwise. Good practice and good fun.
Less than a month left 'til finals now.
